Biography
Caryn comes from a family of artists: her mother is an oil painter; her brother did woodturning; her uncle was a clothing designer and pastel artist and her grandmothers knitted and did crewel work.
Caryn holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Rochester Institute of Technology. She worked in the corporate world for several years before deciding to stay home to raise her family. She continued to take art classes, experimenting in different mediums. After moving to London for her husband’s employment, she took various classes and continued working in colored pencils. While there, she had the opportunity to travel. Her passion for travel has influenced her artwork. After moving back to New York, Caryn took classes in colored pencils with Arlene Steinberg, studied botanicals in watercolor with Rose Pelicano and East Asian brush painting with In K Kim, Carolyn Clarke, Sungsook Setton, Sally Feng Fader, Gladys Stewart and Gan Yu. Her main concentration now is colored pencil, alcohol ink and East Asian brush painting.
Caryn is a 'CPSA' and a five-year merit 'CPX' Signature Member of the Colored Pencil Society of America, a UKCPSO Signature Member of the UK Colour Pencil Society, an Elected Member of the American Artists Professional League, a Juried Member of the International Guild of Realism, the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club and the National Art League.

Her award-winning work has been shown in solo gallery exhibits and she has participated in numerous national and international juried shows and group exhibitions. Her work is in corporate and private collections throughout the United States and Canada.
Caryn has participated in colored pencil workshops with John Smolko, Deborah Maklowski, Paco Martín Domínguez, Jesse Lane, Erwin Lewandowski, Cynthia Knox, Barbara Dahlstedt, Dyanne Locati, Kristy Kutch, Jeffrey Smart Baisden, Tracy Frein, Morgan Kari, Pam Belcher, Robert Kogge, Gemma Gylling, Amy Lindenberger and Nancy Culmone; East Asian brush painting workshops with Gan Yu and Hui Sheng Li; bird sketching workshop with Liz Clayton Fuller and alcohol ink workshops with Jane Kizner, Lorraine Rimmelin and Vera Worthington.
She currently resides with her husband on Long Island, NY
